Each year, as Mother's Day approaches, I find myself nostalgic and reflective. Why?
Because motherhood is powerful.
And beautiful.
And messy.
And hard.
And fun.
And scary.
And bittersweet. So very bittersweet.
And it is most certainly.... not for the faint of heart.
As Gilda Radner says "Motherhood is the biggest gamble in the world. It is the glorious life force. It's huge and scary - it's an act of infinite optimism."
Oh so TRUE.
My job allows me the unique experience of photographing mothers all year long. I get to capture them with babies in their bellies and newborns on their shoulders. I snap moments with squirmy toddlers and spunky school-agers. I even get to photograph the seasoned mothers - the ones with graduating seniors and the ones with grandchildren in their arms.
This year, I had the huge pleasure of photographing a beautiful 92-year old lady with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was truly surrounded by love and it was so special to see. Such an amazing legacy.
So in honor of this coming Mother's Day, I share a collection of my favorite photos from this past year --- all of which honor the tremendous and profound role of mom.
